ashwaganda

I was asked recently to name my three favorite medicinal roots. Initially this seemed like such an impossible task that I almost declined! I have so many favorites that frankly, it didn’t seem possible to narrow it down to my top three favorites! However, as many excellent medicinal roots might vie for position on this list, I immediately knew Ashwaganda would take the top billing.

Known in Latin as Withania Somnifera, Ashwaganda is one of the most frequently used herb in the Indian tradition of Ayurvedic medicine. Ashwaganda is a deep-acting root which nourishes our entire endocrine system and regulates all of our hormone-producing glands: from thyroid to adrenals to our hypothalamus. These in turn help reduce stress and keep us humming along at an even pace.

Ashgawanda is an an anti-inflammatory that also balances the immune system, making it excellent for treating fibromyalgia and other autoimmune illnesses. Because Ashwaganda nourishes our body as opposed to stimulating it, it can be used while treating insomnia.

This fantastic root has helped so many people to feel better! Not only do I recommend Ashwaganda for clients, but I regularly use it as part of my personal regimen. In fact, I moved recently and Ashwaganda helped me through the endless tasks – like lugging of boxes up and down countless flights of stairs, and helped me stay focused and ‘keep my wits about me’.

If you have been working too hard for too long, and are exhausted by running from one thing to the next, Ashwaganda may be for you! Ashwaganda is best when used with other herbs – so contact me about which herbs to mix it with to best address your personal situation!
